Things I Enjoy

Part of living life to the fullest (John 10:10) is recognizing that God created a wonderful world for us to live in that is meant to be enjoyed.  I have a few passions and you can expect me to share about them.  So maybe not every post is going to have a spiritual purpose.  Although you better bet that I’ll still try to find one.

Here are some things that I enjoy and you’ll find me referencing:

  • Running – I started running (jogging, whatever you want to call it) in high school.  For two years I ran on a cross country team.  After those experiences, I ran sporadically for most of my life, probably never running more than 4 miles at a time.  Then, when I was in my late 30s, I started looking to step up my exercise.  I had been playing a lot of indoor soccer, but was finding that my body couldn’t always handle it.  Getting old is not always the best, haha.  Knees and ankles…  So I started running and even challenged myself to a half-marathon.  Now a few years later and quite a few half-marathons completed, 4 miles is the smallest amount I really ever run.  I love running and maybe, just maybe, a full-marathon is still to come.
  • Watches & Pocket Knives – I don’t collect a lot of things, but I have found a passion for some useful gadgets.  The world of EDC (Every Day Carry not Eat Donuts Constantly) does catch my interest, but I find that my every-day-carry doesn’t have a lot of needs.  My dad carried a pocket knife and I have found them very useful (and fun to learn about).  For example, I enjoy learning about Magnacut and M390 steel.  Watches are also super useful!  I started digital.  But they break on me.  Somehow I have burned through 2 Apple Watches and 2 Fitbits…  None of them lasted me 6 months?  I don’t know…  So I started researching actual watches and they are super cool.  Their history also grabs my attention.  I have a Hamilton Watch and it is cool to me knowing that they were made in Lancaster, PA and supplied to the US Army in WW2.
  • Traveling, Hiking, & Exploring – All three of those words speak to basically the same thing to me.  The best part about this interest is how it brings our family together.  All 5 of us have a passion to explore and I love it!  Exploring could be a mountain trail, a sandy beach, or a city street (some cities make for a great hike).  They are all fantastic.  Expect me to talk a bit about past and future trips.  We have visited a few National/State Parks, quite a few cities, a surprising amount of zoos, and other wonderful places.  We could all overflow your ears with the benefits of Buc-ee’s.  We have gone to a ton of local places in Eastern PA and made a few trips across the US.  Future trips include a drive north-east to Acadia, a journey west to Arizona and New Mexico, and many day trips to locations around Philadelphia.

Feel free to ask questions or post comments about any of these points of interest.  I definitely do not consider myself ‘knowledgable’ on any of these things, but I certainly enjoy them.
